General FAQs

General information

Each piece is first created in wax, then cast using the lost wax process - a traditional method that allows for fine detail and subtle variation. Because of this, slight differences from piece to piece are part of the process.

If you’d like help selecting a piece, feel free to get in touch.

Prices are listed in Australian Dollars (AUD).

Gifts

Wrapping

All pieces are boxed with care and come with a polishing cloth and instructions for looking after your jewel.

Rush Orders

If you’re working to a special deadline, let me know - some pieces can be completed sooner.

Laser Engraving

Up to four words can be laser engraved inside a band for $100. This adds an extra week to your order.

Hand Engraving

Block letter engraving is available free of charge. It’s a little more organic than laser -but this could be the look you are after.

Sizes

Sizing can be tricky, but I can help. You are welcome to make an appointment at the studio to try pieces on, or you can be sized by a local jeweller. Standard sizes are used, so most jewellers will be able to assist.

It’s worth noting that hands can change size over time. Resizing is common and usually straightforward. Fees apply and are quoted case by case.

Caring for your jewellery

Jewellery needs a little looking after. Avoid exposure to chemicals, perfumes, and harsh conditions - they can damage both stones and metal.

Pieces are durable but not indestructible. I recommend booking your piece in for a check-up and clean once a year - especially if it's worn daily. I'm happy to polish, tighten settings, or carry out minor repairs for a small fee. Get in touch if your piece is due for a service.

Gold

18ct yellow and white golds are fairly stable and usually only need an occasional polish. Lower carat golds may darken more quickly due to the other metals in the alloy - but this is easy to clean with your cloth, or you can bring it to me for a deeper shine.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver will darken over time as it reacts to air. A quick polish with your cloth or some silver foam will bring it back to brightness. Be sure to rinse and dry with a soft cloth.

Bespoke FAQs

How does bespoke work?

If you are drawn to my aesthetic - the textures, forms, and quiet detail - and have a story or idea you’d like to bring to life, I would love to hear from you. Bespoke begins with a conversation. We’ll talk through materials, inspiration, and meaning, and shape a design together that feels deeply personal.

To see more of my work, visit Instagram, where I share past commissions and process insights. When you’re ready, you can make an appointment here.

What’s the timeline?

The full bespoke process usually takes 6 to 12 weeks, depending on complexity and communication. This includes:

  • sketches and feedback
  • resin or wax try-on and refinement
  • creation, setting, and final touches

If you are hoping to mark a particular date, I recommend reaching out early. A limited number of commissions are available each year.

How are bespoke pieces priced?

Bespoke pricing varies depending on materials, scale, and complexity.

As a guide:

  • 9ct gold commissions start from $2500
  • 14ct gold commissions start from $4000
  • 18ct gold commissions start from $5000
  • Wedding bands start from $1800

These are starting points — once we’ve discussed ideas and materials, I’ll provide a detailed quote.

Do you charge for bespoke design work?

Your first consultation is complimentary - it is a relaxed chat where we can explore ideas, view gems, and imagine what’s possible for your piece.

When you are ready for me to begin developing tailored designs and sourcing stones specifically for you, there’s a $500 design commitment. This ensures I can dedicate focused time and creativity exclusively to your project. It is fully credited towards your final piece if you choose to go ahead.

What happens if I change my mind after seeing the designs?

The design commitment reflects hours of thinking, sketching, and refining that go into creating a one-of-a-kind jewel. While it isn’t refundable, you’ll leave with thoughtful, original concepts.

If a deposit has been paid and materials have been ordered, changes to your project may affect timing and cost – I will always do my best to accommodate small adjustments where possible.

Do I own the design concepts?

All sketches, CAD models, and prototypes remain the intellectual property of Kim Victoria Jewels, even when a design commitment has been paid.

Your concepts are created exclusively for your proposed commission and are not transferable for reproduction elsewhere. This protects the originality of your piece and ensures that the creative thread stays unique to you and my studio.

How does the deposit work for bespoke pieces?

Once your final design and quote are approved, a 50% deposit (minus the $500 already paid) secures the making of your jewel. The remaining balance is due on completion, before collection or shipping.

Can I use my own heirloom stones?

I can work with heirloom stones, depending on the condition and suitability of the gem. A small fee may apply to identify and assess stones before we begin.

I’m not currently able to reuse client-supplied gold in the making process, but existing gold can sometimes be traded for credit towards your piece.

What metals do you use?

I work exclusively with recycled gold for lost wax cast pieces - in 9ct, 14ct or 18ct - and in yellow, white, or rose gold alloys. I also work with platinum for certain designs.

Other metals are not currently available for bespoke work.

Do you replicate other designers’ work?

In short: no. I do not copy or recreate work by other makers.

Jewellery is a deeply personal expression, and part of my role is to help you create something unique - a piece that honours your story, while remaining true to the design language of my studio.

What if my budget doesn’t suit bespoke?

If you love the style of my work but bespoke isn’t quite the right fit right now, I offer customisation options for selected pieces from my online collection. This can be a wonderful way to personalise something while keeping within your budget.
