Last year I finished a collection to show at Pieces of Eight gallery. It was an emotional one for me as I have been through big personal changes in the past few years. I am lucky enough to be able to channel this into work.
During my stay in Lima, Peru, I photographed this sculpture by Fernando de Szyszlo Valdelomar. Its concrete form hunkered into the landscape that overlooked the rough ocean. The piece inspired me to research Brutalist architecture and became a point of reference for the collection.
I was drawn to the permanence of the materials and the monolithic forms. That is how love feels to me. The ground may shift, circumstances may change, but love perseveres. Affected but relentless.
